Same Game Parlay

Sports betting

A same game parlay (SGP) combines multiple bets from the same game into one parlay. Popular but typically carries higher house edge than standard parlays.

A same-game parlay, commonly abbreviated SGP, lets a bettor combine several markets from a single match into one parlay ticket. Rather than linking selections across different games, an SGP might tie together a player to score first, the team to win, and the match total to go over a line, all within the same fixture. The format is offered by most major sportsbooks and is hugely popular because it concentrates a large potential payout on one event a bettor is already watching. The crucial feature, and the catch, is correlation. Outcomes inside one game influence each other: a team likely to win is also more likely to keep a clean sheet, and a high-scoring game makes both an over and a particular player's points more probable. Because these legs are not independent, the naive multiplication of their individual prices would overstate the true odds, so sportsbooks recalculate SGP prices downward to account for the linkage. The result is a noticeably higher hold than on a standard cross-game parlay. The scale of that margin is significant. Where a straight single bet might carry a hold of around 4.5%, an SGP can run a hold of roughly 15% to 25% once the correlation adjustment and stacked legs are factored in. That margin is the price of packaging correlated bets into one ticket, and it compounds with every leg added. The common mistake is being seduced by the headline payout while overlooking how heavily the SGP is priced against you. Adding leg after leg feels like building a bigger win, but each one widens the bookmaker's edge. SGPs are best treated as high-variance entertainment on a game you care about, with stakes kept modest, rather than as a value play.
