What RTP does and does not tell you
RTP is a long-run average produced by the game’s maths, measured over a number of spins far larger than anyone plays. A 96% RTP does not mean you get 96 back for every 100 staked in a session; it means that across millions of simulated spins the game returns that share, and the remainder is the house edge, which never goes away.
Two things break the link between the number and your experience. Volatility decides how the return is distributed, so the same 96% can arrive as frequent small wins or as one rare large one. And many titles are sold in several configured builds, so the RTP running at the casino you open may not be the studio’s default at all.
