Double Chance

Double chance is a football market that lets you back two of the three possible match outcomes in a single bet, covering you against one of them. The three combinations are home or draw (1X), away or draw (X2), and home or away (12). By backing two results at once you greatly raise the probability that your bet wins, and in return you accept shorter odds. It is a lower-risk way to support a side — typically a favourite you expect not to lose — while still being protected if the match ends level. Worked example: where the home win is priced at 1.80, the draw at 3.60, and the away win at 4.50, the 1X double chance (home or draw) merges the home and draw outcomes. Its fair price reflects the combined probability of those two results, so it might be offered at around 1.25. Stake 100 on 1X and you collect 125 if the home side wins or draws, losing only if the away team wins outright. You have covered two of three outcomes, sharply raising your chance of a return, but a winning bet now yields just 25 profit rather than the 80 a straight home win would have paid. Double chance matters because it converts a three-way market into a higher-probability, lower-reward proposition, useful when you fancy a team to avoid defeat but fear the draw. The common mistake is overusing it and eroding value: covering two outcomes carries the bookmaker's margin, the Vig, so the shortened odds often offer poor value next to a single Moneyline pick. A close relative is Draw No Bet, which backs one team to win but refunds the stake on a draw rather than paying out on it. Double chance is a safety-first tool, not a route to large returns.
