What it means in practice

Hong Kong odds express a price as the profit returned per unit staked, excluding the stake itself. A price of 1.00 doubles your money, 0.50 returns half your stake as profit, and 2.50 returns two and a half times. The format is common on Asian handicap markets and sits alongside Malay and Indonesian odds in the same lobbies. Converting to decimal is a single step: add one. Hong Kong 1.85 is decimal 2.85, and 0.90 is decimal 1.90. The reverse works the same way in the other direction. The practical value is that even money is 1.00, so a glance tells you which side is the favourite: anything below one returns less profit than it risks. That is the same information fractional odds carry and decimal odds hide behind the returned stake, which is why the format persists in markets where prices cluster tightly around even money and small differences are what is being compared.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
