What is Net Banking?

India's bank-login checkout: how it differs from UPI on limits and traceability, and why payouts return to the funding account.

What it means in practice

Net banking is the Indian checkout route in which a payment page hands the customer to their own bank's internet-banking login. The debit is authorised inside the bank's own session and the merchant never sees the credentials. Most Indian banks are supported, and it predates UPI as the default way to pay online. It is worth separating from UPI because the two behave differently at the edges. Net banking runs a full banking session rather than a per-transaction approval, so it is slower to complete, but it is not bound by UPI's per-transaction and daily caps and is therefore the route larger transfers tend to take. It also produces a bank statement line naming the payment processor rather than the site, which matters when a transaction has to be traced later. The friction is the same friction UPI has. Indian banks and payment intermediaries block transfers identified as gambling-related, the legality of real-money play varies by state, and a processor that works this month can be withdrawn the next. On the way out, payouts are normally returned to the same bank account that funded the deposit and must match the account holder's verified name — a mismatch is a routine reason for a withdrawal to sit unpaid. The practical check is which specific banks a cashier lists, because coverage is per bank rather than universal.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
