Paytable

The paytable is the information screen within a slot that sets out exactly how the game pays. It lists every winning symbol combination and its value, explains the function of special symbols such as wilds, scatters and bonus icons, describes how bonus rounds and free spins are triggered, and usually states the theoretical Return to Player. It is, in effect, the rulebook for the machine. Reading it before you spin is a practical habit, not a formality. If the paytable shows that five premium symbols on a line pay 500 times the line bet, and you are staking 0.20 per line across 20 lines, that win is 500 x 0.20 = 100, not 500 times your 4.00 total spin. Misreading line bet against total bet is one of the most common ways players overestimate a game's prizes. The paytable also hints at volatility through the spread between low and top payouts and the structure of the bonus features, helping you judge whether a game suits your bankroll and patience. The mistake to avoid is assuming all slots on a similar theme behave alike; two visually identical games can carry different RTPs and feature rules.
