Pooled Jackpot

Slots

A pooled jackpot is a prize funded by combined contributions from many linked machines or games, growing far faster than a single-machine progressive.

A pooled jackpot is a prize funded by combining small contributions from many players across multiple linked machines or games, so the top prize grows far faster than it could on a single standalone slot. Instead of one machine building its own progressive meter, every qualifying spin — often across dozens or hundreds of games and even multiple casinos on the same network — feeds a shared pool, letting the headline figure climb into six or seven figures. Mechanically, a small slice of each wager (the contribution rate) is diverted from the game's base return and added to the pooled meter. Because thousands of players contribute simultaneously, the pot rises quickly and resets to a seed value after a win. Network-wide pooled jackpots such as Mega Moolah and Age of the Gods work this way; the same term also covers pooled must-drop jackpots that are guaranteed to pay before a set threshold. Worked example: suppose a network of 500 slots each takes an average of 600 spins per hour at £1 per spin, with 1% of every wager routed to the pool. That is 500 × 600 × £1 × 1% = £3,000 added to the meter every hour, or roughly £72,000 a day before any win — which is why pooled pots dwarf single-machine progressives. For players, the trade-off is a slightly lower base RTP, since the contribution is taken from normal returns. Many pooled slots also require a maximum-qualifying bet to be eligible for the top tier, so check the paytable before chasing it.
