A reel modifier is a random effect applied to the reels before or after a spin resolves, changing the grid rather than paying directly. Typical modifiers add wilds to random positions, convert one symbol type into another, expand the grid, apply a multiplier to any win, or guarantee a scatter. They fire at the game's own discretion, usually announced by an animation, and are most common in the base game as a way to keep an otherwise flat spin cycle varied. Modifiers are sometimes bundled as a named set, with the game picking one at random. Because they are part of the certified maths model, their trigger rates are fixed and already accounted for in the RTP. Seeing several in a short run is normal clustering, not a sign that a game has entered a paying phase.
