Must-Drop Jackpot
SlotsA must-drop jackpot is a progressive slot jackpot guaranteed to pay out before it hits a set cap or time limit, dropping to a random eligible player.
A must-drop jackpot is a progressive jackpot that is guaranteed to pay out before it reaches a set amount or before a set time expires, forcing it to drop to a random eligible player rather than growing indefinitely. Popularised by networked slots (notably Red Tiger's "Daily Drops" and similar Drops & Wins campaigns), these jackpots trade the life-changing sums of a standalone progressive for far shorter, more predictable payout cycles.
There are two common formats. A must-drop-by-amount jackpot displays a ceiling (say £1,000) and is triggered at a hidden, randomly pre-selected figure below it, so it can drop at any point before hitting the cap. A must-drop-by-time jackpot is committed to fall within a window, such as "must drop daily before midnight." The winner is usually chosen at random from qualifying real-money spins, not by landing a specific symbol combination.
Worked example: a "daily drop" pot with a £1,000 must-fall-by ceiling has a secret trigger value seeded at, say, £873.40. It grows as players stake, and the spin that pushes the total to or past £873.40 wins the whole pot. If the pot is small and few people are playing near a deadline, your relative odds of catching a time-based drop improve, though each individual spin is still independent.
For players and affiliates, the practical hook is frequency over size: must-drop jackpots convert well because a win feels "due," but eligibility often requires a minimum qualifying stake, and the RTP contribution funding the pot is baked into the base game. Compare with progressive-jackpot, fixed-jackpot, drops-and-wins and pooled-jackpot.
