What is Player Props?

Player props are bets on an individual player's statistical performance in a match, such as shots, points, passes, tackles, rebounds or cards, rather than on the final result. The word "prop" is short for proposition, and player props sit within the wider category of proposition bets. Instead of asking who wins, they ask how a specific player performs against a line set by the bookmaker, giving punters a way to back a viewpoint on one athlete regardless of the scoreline. Most player props are framed as an over/under total or a yes/no market. A basketball prop might read "LeBron James over/under 27.5 points", while a football prop such as "anytime goalscorer" pays out if a named player scores at any point. Popular examples include shots on target, passes completed, cards received, three-pointers made and passing yards in American football. Worked example: a sportsbook posts "Erling Haaland 1+ shots on target" at odds of 1.50 (decimal), an implied probability of about 67%. A £20 stake returns £30 in total (£10 profit) if he registers at least one shot on target. The over line, "over 2.5 shots on target" at 2.20, returns £44 from the same £20 stake but demands a stronger performance.
