Table Minimum

A table minimum is the smallest bet a casino permits on a given table for each hand, spin, or roll, displayed on a placard at the table and used to separate low-limit from high-limit action. Every wagering position that must be filled to join a round is governed by it, so on a $10 blackjack table each seated player has to bet at least $10 per hand. Minimums typically rise during busy periods, on weekends, and in the high-limit room, letting the pit control how many low-stakes players occupy a table. The placard usually pairs the minimum with a table maximum, defining the full betting range, for example "$10 min / $500 max." On some games the minimum applies to the main bet only, while optional side bets carry their own smaller minimum. Worked example: you sit at a $25 roulette table with a $25 minimum. On even-money outside bets such as red or black, the minimum applies to that single wager, so you must place at least $25 on red. On inside bets, the $25 typically applies to the total of your chips across numbers, not to each number, meaning you could split $25 across five numbers at $5 each. Bet below the posted figure and the dealer will ask you to top up before the round proceeds. For players, checking the placard before sitting protects your bankroll: a $5 minimum table lets a $100 stake last far longer than a $50 minimum, where a cold streak can drain it in minutes.
