Chargeback

Payments

A chargeback occurs when a player disputes a transaction with their bank, reversing a casino deposit. Most casinos permanently ban accounts for chargebacks.

A chargeback occurs when a player contacts their card issuer to dispute and forcibly reverse a casino deposit, pulling the money back out of the operator's account after the funds were already credited and, often, played. Chargebacks exist as a legitimate consumer protection against genuine fraud or unauthorised use, but when used to claw back gambling deposits that the player made willingly, they are treated by operators as a serious breach of terms and a form of fraud in their own right. Worked example: a player deposits 300 by card, loses it at the tables, then files a chargeback claiming the transaction was unauthorised. The issuer provisionally refunds the 300 and debits the casino, often adding a chargeback fee. Because the player already consumed the 300 in wagers, the casino has paid out winnings or absorbed losses on money it no longer holds. Operators respond by permanently closing the account, confiscating any balance, blacklisting the player across shared industry databases, and submitting evidence (deposit logs, KYC records, IP data) to contest the claim. Chargebacks matter because the consequences are severe and lasting. The common mistake is using a chargeback as an informal way to recover gambling losses or to escape a withdrawal that is taking too long — this is fraud, not dispute resolution, and it can lead to legal action and a permanent ban from the operator and its sister sites. The correct route for a slow or denied withdrawal is the operator's complaints process, then the relevant regulator or licensing body such as the UKGC or MGA. If gambling losses are causing financial distress, the right response is responsible-gambling support and self-exclusion, not a chargeback.
