A click ID is a unique identifier generated for each individual click on an affiliate tracking link. It is created the moment a user clicks and is carried through their session, either stored as a cookie or appended to the destination URL as a parameter. When that user later registers or deposits with the operator, the click ID is passed back so the conversion can be attributed to the exact affiliate, campaign, and creative that produced the original click. It is the backbone of accurate server-to-server (S2S) affiliate tracking.
Worked example: an affiliate's link routes through a tracker that stamps the visit with a click ID such as a long alphanumeric string, then forwards the user to the operator carrying that ID. The operator records the ID against the new account. When the player makes a qualifying deposit days later, the operator fires a postback to the affiliate's tracker containing the same click ID, which the tracker matches to the source campaign and credits the conversion. Because the match is by a stored ID rather than a fragile browser cookie alone, attribution survives even when cookies are cleared.
Click IDs matter because they make tracking precise and auditable, letting affiliates measure which traffic actually converts and operators pay only for genuine, attributable players. The common mistake is breaking the chain: stripping the parameter during a redirect, failing to persist the ID through a multi-step funnel, or mismatching IDs between the tracker and the operator's postback, all of which cause lost or duplicated conversions.
