What is Affiliate Payment Threshold?

The minimum balance an affiliate must reach before a programme releases any money — and what happens to balances that never get there.

What it means in practice

An affiliate payment threshold is the minimum balance a partner must accumulate before the programme will release a payment. Below it, the money is shown as owed and carried into the next period; above it, the payment runs on the programme's normal schedule. The stated purpose is transaction cost. Bank transfers, currency conversion and the administration around each payment run cost the operator a fixed amount, so releasing very small balances loses money. That is a real constraint, and thresholds are unremarkable in themselves. What matters is what the contract says about a balance that never reaches the line. Some programmes carry it forward indefinitely, which is the fair version. Others state that a balance below the threshold is forfeited if the account goes inactive or is closed, which converts a genuine cost-saving rule into a way of never paying small partners at all. A small affiliate on a modest revenue share can sit under the line for months, and the outcome depends entirely on a clause most people never read. Three details are worth checking before signing anything. Whether the threshold differs by payment method, since some programmes set a low bar for an e-wallet and a much higher one for a bank transfer. Whether the payment fee is deducted from the affiliate's balance or absorbed by the operator. And whether the threshold is assessed before or after any negative carryover from a previous month, because a threshold applied after a deduction is effectively higher than the number printed in the terms.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
