What is Dealer?

The dealer is the casino employee who runs a table game. The role covers shuffling and dealing cards or spinning the wheel, announcing when betting closes, settling each round by paying winners and collecting losing chips, and enforcing the posted rules and table limits. Dealers follow strict procedures, work under a pit boss or floor supervisor and are recorded on camera, partly to protect players and partly to protect the house. They have no influence over the result and no personal stake in whether a player wins. In poker rooms the dealer also manages the pot and takes the rake but never plays a hand. Online, the word covers both the software running an RNG game and the streamed human at a live-dealer table. Tipping, called a toke, is customary in some jurisdictions.
