What is League of Legends?

League of Legends, or LoL, is a five-versus-five multiplayer online battle arena developed by Riot Games and one of the most-watched esports in the world. Two teams compete to destroy the opposing base, the Nexus, across an objective-rich map. The annual World Championship, known as Worlds, draws tens of millions of concurrent viewers, and a calendar of regional leagues keeps competitive play running almost year-round. The betting markets reflect the game's structure. Beyond the simple match or series winner, books offer first blood (the first kill of the game), first tower, total kills, total games in a series, total dragons or barons, and a range of game-specific props. For example, a best-of-five final might offer a series correct-score market: backing a 3-1 result pays more than backing the favourite to win the series outright, because it specifies the exact margin. The major regional leagues — the LCK in Korea, the LPL in China, the LEC in Europe and the LCS in North America — each have distinct stylistic tendencies that inform these markets. Why it matters: LoL betting rewards followers who track roster changes, the current patch and the prevailing meta, all of which can swing form sharply between splits.
