What is Map?

In tactical-shooter esports such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant and Rainbow Six Siege, a map is a single game arena with its own self-contained sequence of rounds and its own winner. Series are usually played as a best-of-three or best-of-five, so a best-of-three contains up to three maps, and the team that wins the majority takes the series. Map betting lets you wager on the outcome of an individual map rather than the overall result. Worked example: in a best-of-three CS2 series you can bet the map 1 winner separately from the series winner. Suppose a strong team has a known weakness on a particular map that happens to be selected first; the favourite to win the series outright might still be an underdog to win that specific opening map. Backing the underdog on map 1, then reassessing for map 2, can capture value that the series-winner market obscures. Books also offer total rounds on a given map and the pistol-round winner of each map. Why it matters: map betting provides far more granular markets than the binary series result, rewarding bettors who study each team's map pool, their pick-and-ban tendencies and recent form on specific maps. The common mistake is to ignore the veto process — which maps each side will pick, ban or leave as the decider — since this heavily shapes which maps are actually played and by whom.
