Valorant is a 5v5 tactical hero shooter from Riot Games, launched in 2020, that has grown quickly into a major esports title. Its premier competition is the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT), a global circuit that culminates each year in the Valorant Champions event. As viewership and prize pools have risen, sportsbook coverage has expanded well beyond simple match-winner odds to include map winner, correct map score, total rounds per map, first blood, and pistol-round outcomes.
Worked example: in a best-of-three series, a bettor might back the map-2 winner rather than the series winner, reasoning that the underdog has a strong map pool on the second map in the veto. Suppose the underdog is priced at 2.20 to take map 2. A £20 stake returns £44 (20 × 2.20) if they win that single map, a bet that can succeed even if they go on to lose the series 2-1. Round-handicap and 'total rounds over/under' markets work much like totals in traditional sports, with the line set near even and priced with the usual vig.
Why it matters: map-by-map and prop markets let bettors exploit detailed knowledge — map pools, agent compositions, roster changes — that the headline series price may not fully reflect.
The common caveat is the volatility specific to esports: last-minute roster swaps, stand-in players, patch changes that reshape the meta, and online versus LAN conditions can all swing a match in ways that have no equivalent in established sports. Liquidity is thinner too, so lines move sharply on small money and can be circled. Treat unfamiliar markets cautiously and bet within a planned bankroll. Compare with totals, prop bets and the betting line.
