What is Player Rating?

A player rating is the casino's tracked measure of how much a gambler is worth to the house, combining average bet size, hours of play and the resulting theoretical loss into a single figure used to decide comps, credit lines and VIP status. Pit bosses or the loyalty system record it manually at the tables or automatically through your player's card in slots, so every rated session feeds the estimate of your long-term value. The core number is theoretical loss, sometimes called theo: average bet multiplied by decisions per hour, hours played and the game's house edge. Casinos typically return a fixed slice of that theo to you as comps, often around 20 to 40 percent, which funds free meals, rooms, show tickets and eventually credit eligibility. Worked example: you play blackjack at an average bet of £75 for four hours, seeing roughly 70 hands per hour. That is £75 × 70 × 4 = £21,000 in total action. Against a house edge of about 0.5 percent with reasonable strategy, your theoretical loss is roughly £105. At a 30 percent comp rate the casino awards about £31 in comps, regardless of whether you actually won or lost that session. For players and affiliates, the practical point is that rating rewards volume and edge exposure, not luck: flat-betting a game the casino thinks it beats builds a rating faster than a few big wins. Never lengthen sessions or raise stakes purely to chase a higher rating.
