What is Three-Way Betting (1X2)?

Three-way betting (the 1X2 market) settles as home win, draw or away win — and how it differs from a two-way moneyline.

What it means in practice

Three-way betting, usually shown as the 1X2 market, offers three possible outcomes on a match: home win, draw, or away win. It is the standard football market across most of Europe and differs from the two-way moneyline used in sports where ties are rare or removed by overtime. Because the draw is a separate selection, backing a team on the 1X2 market means a drawn game loses, unlike double chance or draw no bet, where the tie is covered or refunded. The prices on all three outcomes together contain the bookmaker's margin, so their implied probabilities always add up to more than 100%. Three-way lines also appear on totals and handicaps in some sports, where the exact figure becomes its own outcome instead of a push.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
