Trixie

Sports betting

A Trixie is a four-bet wager on three selections made up of three doubles and one treble, with no singles, so at least two picks must win to return.

A Trixie is a four-bet wager on three selections consisting of three doubles and one treble, with no single bets included. Because there are no singles, at least two of your three selections must win for any return at all. It is one of the most popular full-cover bets on horse racing and football, offering a spread of outcomes from a small stake while still rewarding an accumulator-style treble when all three come in. The four bets break down as three doubles (selection 1 and 2, 1 and 3, 2 and 3) plus one treble (all three together). This means your total outlay is four times your unit stake, so a "£2 Trixie" costs £8. If only one selection wins, you lose the whole bet, which is the key trade-off versus a Patent, which adds three singles. Worked example: back three horses at 2.00, 3.00 and 4.00 (decimal odds) with a £2 unit stake, for £8 total. If all three win, the doubles return £12, £16 and £24, and the treble returns £48, giving £100 gross for a £92 profit. If only the first two win, the single winning double (2.00 x 3.00 x £2) returns £12 for a £4 profit, while the other doubles and the treble lose. For affiliates, the Trixie is a useful example when explaining multi-bet coverage, because it shows how spreading risk across combinations differs from a straight accumulator. Never chase the treble payout by overstaking; the multiplied unit cost adds up quickly across several selections.
