What is Voluntary Account Closure?

Voluntary account closure is a request to shut a gambling account permanently for reasons other than problem gambling — moving country, no longer using the site, or simply wanting fewer accounts open. It is a different mechanism from self-exclusion, and the difference matters. Self-exclusion is a protective tool: it is usually irreversible for a fixed period, is often shared across operators through a national scheme, and cannot be lifted on request. A voluntary closure is an ordinary account action and can normally be reversed by contacting support. Before closing, withdraw any remaining balance and complete verification if it is outstanding, because a withdrawal after closure is slower and sometimes needs the account reopened. Ask what happens to bonus balances — most terms forfeit them on closure — and to any pending bets. Closure does not delete your records: operators are required to retain transaction and identity data for a period set by regulation, so a request to close and a request to erase data are two different requests. If the reason for closing is that gambling has stopped feeling controllable, self-exclusion is the correct tool rather than closure, because closure can be undone in minutes.
