Rise of Merlin is a 2019 Play'n GO slot built on the book-slot template the studio has used since Book of Dead, moved from Egypt to Arthurian legend and a young Merlin. Five reels run over ten paylines, and the Magical Orb does double duty as both the scatter and the wild — it substitutes for other symbols in ordinary play and, when three or more land, pays a scatter prize and opens eight free spins. That round can be retriggered from inside itself, adding another eight each time it happens, so a long session in the feature is possible without a separate re-entry mechanic. Before the free spins begin, one symbol is picked at random to expand for the whole round.
