What is Forfeit a Bonus?

Giving up an active bonus and what it has generated, usually to release your own money from the wagering attached to it.

What it means in practice

To forfeit a bonus is to give it up voluntarily, along with whatever it has generated, usually so that your own money can be withdrawn without completing the wagering attached to it. Most operators provide a forfeit control in the account area or the promotions page, and support can do it on request. What survives the act depends entirely on how the offer was built. With a non-sticky bonus the player's deposit and the bonus are held as separate balances, so forfeiting drops the bonus and returns the cash intact — the reason non-sticky offers are considered the friendlier structure. With a sticky bonus the two are merged into one balance, and forfeiting can therefore cost more than expected, because what leaves is not cleanly separable from what stays. Forfeiting is the rational move more often than players expect. When the remaining wagering is large relative to the balance, when the maximum conversion caps the outcome so low that clearing the bonus cannot pay much anyway, or when the offer's expiry is close, the bonus has stopped being an asset and become a lock on your own money. One trap is worth naming. Some terms treat a withdrawal request made while a bonus is active as a forfeit in itself, voiding the bonus and its winnings automatically rather than blocking the withdrawal. That clause is common enough to check for, because it turns an ordinary cashout into an irreversible decision.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
