A game of skill is one in which the player's own decisions measurably influence the result over a long series of rounds. Poker, sports betting and video poker sit in this group, because hand selection, price judgement or which cards you hold change the expected outcome. Regulators use the distinction to decide what counts as gambling, and the tests differ by country: some ask whether skill predominates over chance, others whether any chance is present at all. Two things are easy to misread. Skill narrows the gap between a player's expected result and the cost built into the game, but it never removes variance, so short runs stay unpredictable. And every skill game still carries an operator charge — a rake, a margin or a paytable — so no level of ability makes gambling a dependable source of income.
