What is Marketing Preferences?

Marketing preferences control which promotional messages an operator may send. Why turning them off is the lightest safer-gambling control.

What it means in practice

Marketing preferences are the settings that control which promotional messages an operator may send you and by which channel: email, SMS, push notification, phone or on-site pop-ups. They sit in the account area and can normally be changed at any time. In regulated markets, consent for direct marketing has to be given rather than assumed, and withdrawing it must be as easy as giving it. Turning it off does not close the account or affect a balance, and operators must still send service messages — verification requests, payment confirmations, terms changes — because those are not marketing. The setting is worth knowing about for a reason beyond tidiness. A bonus notification arriving during a break is a prompt to play, and switching marketing off is the least drastic of the safer-gambling controls: it removes the invitation without removing access. Time-outs and self-exclusion suppress marketing automatically for their duration.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
