Goliath

Sports betting

A Goliath is a 247-bet wager on eight selections covering every double, treble and accumulator up to an eightfold, with no singles.

A Goliath is a 247-bet full-cover wager on eight selections, comprising every possible double, treble and larger accumulator up to the single eightfold, but with no singles. Its makeup is 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-folds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds and 1 eight-fold, totalling 247 bets. It is the largest of the standard full-cover formats, sitting above the Heinz (six selections) and Super Heinz (seven selections). Because a Goliath contains no singles, at least two of your eight picks must win before any part of the bet returns a penny, and multiple winners are needed to turn a profit. The trade-off is that you cover a huge number of overlapping combinations, so a strong run of results can produce disproportionately large payouts. Worked example: at a £0.10 stake per line, a Goliath costs 247 x £0.10 = £24.70. Suppose all eight selections are priced at even money (2.0 decimal) and all eight win. Every one of the 247 lines lands, and each doubles in value across its legs. The eightfold alone returns £0.10 x 2^8 = £25.60, while the doubles, trebles and other multiples add hundreds of pounds more, producing a total return running into four figures from that single £24.70 outlay. Practical context for players: the stake is per line, so a Goliath at £1 a line costs £247 - always confirm the unit stake before placing it. Compare with the Heinz, Super Heinz and the smaller Yankee and Lucky 15.
