What is Last Click Attribution?

Last click attribution credits a signup or deposit to whichever tracking link the player clicked most recently before converting. It is the near-universal default in gambling affiliate programmes, and it decides which of several affiliates gets paid for the same player. It is chosen because it is unambiguous rather than because it is fair. Every click writes a cookie with a click identifier, the newest one wins, and the operator never has to arbitrate a dispute about who did more of the work. The cost is that it rewards the last touch in a chain that may have been started by somebody else: a review site that convinced a reader, followed weeks later by a bonus-code page the same reader passed through on the way to registering, pays the second and not the first. Two details decide how much that matters in practice. Cookie duration sets how long a click stays eligible, so a thirty-day window and a lifetime window reward completely different kinds of site. And whether a click actually overwrites the previous one is a programme setting, not a law: some operators run first click for a defined period, and a few honour the original referrer for a player's whole lifetime.
