What is Proof of Address?

A proof of address is the document an operator asks for to confirm that you live where your account says you do. It sits alongside photo ID in the standard verification pack, and it is usually the item that fails, because the rules are narrower than they look. Normally accepted: a utility bill, a bank or card statement, a tax or local-authority letter, or an official government letter. Normally rejected: a document older than the operator's window, which is commonly a few months but is set by each operator rather than by a universal rule; a cropped screenshot instead of the full page; a name that does not match the account; an address that does not match the one you registered with. Mobile-phone bills and printed online-banking statements are accepted by some operators and refused by others, so read the cashier's own list rather than assuming. Two practical points. The document has to match the account, so correct the account details first and upload afterwards. And the request usually arrives at withdrawal rather than at registration, which is why an account can look complete for weeks and then hold its first payout while documents are reviewed.
