What is Game Malfunction?

A game malfunction clause is the line in almost every casino's terms stating that a malfunction voids all pays and plays. It means that where a game produces a result it was not designed to produce, the round is cancelled and the stake returned rather than the displayed win being paid. The clause exists for a real reason and is not simply an escape hatch. Games are certified against a specified mathematical model, and a build that pays outside that model is not a lucky player, it is a defect — often one that would pay every player the same way until it was found. Honouring a displayed number that the certified game could not have produced would mean paying out of a fault. Regulators in licensed markets accept the principle for that reason. What the clause does not cover is worth knowing just as well. It does not cover a result you dispute but the provider's logs record normally; that is not a malfunction, it is a disagreement, and the round identifier in your game history is what settles it. It does not entitle an operator to void a win simply because it is large. And in a licensed market it does not end the matter: if you believe a malfunction has been claimed to avoid paying a legitimate win, the operator's complaints procedure and then its alternative dispute resolution body are the route, and both are named in the same terms document as the clause itself.
