What is Geolocation Check?

A geolocation check is the operator's verification of where you physically are at the moment you place a bet or open a game. Licensed markets are defined by territory: a licence permits an operator to serve players inside a particular jurisdiction and not outside it, and in several regulated markets the operator is legally required to establish location before accepting a wager rather than relying on your registered address. The check combines signals: the IP address, mobile network data, GPS on an app, Wi-Fi network identifiers, and device settings. Some markets require a dedicated geolocation module rather than IP alone, because IP is the easiest signal to disguise. A failed check usually blocks the bet rather than the account, and repeated failures can trigger a review. For players the practical points are simple: a check can fail for innocent reasons — a corporate network routing traffic through another country, a VPN left running for work, location permissions denied to the app — and the fix is usually to disable the interfering service and retry. Deliberately misrepresenting your location breaches the terms of essentially every licensed operator and puts any balance at risk.
