Licence Condition

A licence condition is a binding rule an operator must obey to hold and keep its gambling licence, breach of which can trigger regulatory action, fines, or revocation. In Great Britain these are set out in the UK Gambling Commission's Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (the LCCP), which covers areas such as game fairness, anti-money-laundering controls, protection of customer funds, age verification, and responsible-gambling tools. Some conditions are mandatory for all licensees, while others are ordinary or specific to a licence type; social responsibility code provisions carry the same enforceable weight as formal conditions. Worked example: an operator's licence may require it to segregate 100% of player deposits in a protected account, verify a customer's identity before allowing withdrawal, and refund funds if age checks fail after a deposit. Suppose a player deposits GBP 500 and later fails age verification: the operator must return the GBP 500 but may lawfully withhold any winnings. Separately, a condition might mandate an annual GBP 0.10 per-machine contribution or reporting of any single deposit above a set threshold to satisfy AML monitoring. For players and affiliates, licence conditions are a practical quality signal: a properly licensed operator is contractually bound to hold your money safely, run tested RNG games, and offer deposit limits and self-exclusion. Checking that a brand's licence is live and unrestricted on the regulator's register is a fast, reliable due-diligence step before depositing or promoting it.
