An Isle of Man gambling licence is an online gambling authorisation issued by the Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC), the statutory regulator of the self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea. It permits operators and, notably, business-to-business suppliers to run casino, sportsbook, network gaming and software services from the island. The jurisdiction is prized for political and economic stability, a mature regulatory framework, and a low-tax environment, which is why many B2B platform and content providers base their licensed operations there rather than serving end players directly. In practice, a GSC licence obliges the holder to segregate player funds in a protected account, apply anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer checks, submit to game and RNG testing, and follow player-protection and responsible-gambling rules. Player funds protection is a headline feature: the Isle of Man mandates segregation with independent trustee oversight, giving stronger safeguards than many offshore regimes. Worked example: Isle of Man gambling duty is banded and capped, charged on gross gaming yield at roughly 1.5% on the first GBP 20 million, 0.5% on the next GBP 20 million, and 0.1% above GBP 40 million. On GBP 50 million of yield an operator pays about GBP 300,000 plus GBP 100,000 plus GBP 10,000, totalling around GBP 410,000 — an effective rate near 0.8%, far below the 15%-plus point-of-consumption taxes in markets like Great Britain. For affiliates and players, a GSC licence signals a well-supervised, fund-protected operator, though it does not by itself grant legal access to regulated markets such as the UK, which require a separate UKGC licence. Compare with the Alderney and Gibraltar gambling licences, the MGA and the UKGC.
