A jackpot symbol is a special slot symbol that awards, or counts towards, one of a game's jackpot tiers rather than a standard line win. Depending on the title it may pay instantly when a required number land, fill a collection meter over several spins, or appear only inside a bonus round where the tiers are decided. Tiers are commonly labelled Mini, Minor, Major and Grand, and the higher the tier, the rarer the combination that awards it. Jackpot symbols are produced by the same random number generator as every other symbol, so they never become due after a dry spell. Some games require a minimum qualifying bet before jackpot symbols count at all, which can put the advertised top prize out of reach at low stakes. Check the paytable for the qualifying conditions first.
