Loyalty Points

Loyalty points, sometimes called comp points, are earned by placing real-money bets at a casino and are usually calculated as a fraction of the amount wagered. They accumulate over time to unlock rewards such as free spins, bonus credit, merchandise or cashback, and they often determine progression through a VIP or tier programme. They are the online equivalent of the comps a land-based casino extends to regular players. Worked example: a casino awards 1 loyalty point for every 10 wagered on slots and 1 point for every 50 wagered on table games, reflecting the lower house edge of table play. Suppose 100 points convert to 1 unit of bonus credit. A player who wagers 5,000 on slots earns 500 points, worth 5 in bonus value — an effective rebate of just 0.1% of turnover. The headline rate of accumulation can look generous while the redemption value remains modest. Why it matters: loyalty schemes can add genuine value for high-volume players, but only if you check the redemption rate rather than the earning rate. The common mistake is to chase points by increasing stakes or session length, when the rebate they return is almost always far smaller than the house edge being paid to earn them — chasing points is never a reason to bet more. Treat points as a small bonus on play you would have made anyway, not as an incentive to expand it. Note too that different games contribute at different rates.
