What is Dealer Rotation?

Dealer rotation is the practice of replacing the presenter at a live table at set intervals through a shift rather than leaving one person there for hours. Studios run it for straightforward operational reasons: dealing and presenting continuously is demanding, accuracy drops with fatigue, and a rested dealer makes fewer errors. The changeover is usually brief and announced, with the incoming dealer introduced by name and the outgoing one saying goodbye. On card games the swap is often timed to coincide with a shoe change so that a single pause covers both. The reason the term appears in a glossary at all is the belief attached to it. Players commonly hold that a particular dealer runs hot or cold, and follow or avoid one accordingly. There is nothing behind this. The cards are shuffled mechanically or by procedure, the wheel is governed by physics the dealer cannot steer to a pocket, and studio protocol is designed specifically to remove individual influence from the outcome. A dealer can affect pace, atmosphere and the occasional misdeal — which is why dealer error has its own procedure — but not the distribution of results. Where a table displays statistics by dealer, they are entertainment, and reading a run of outcomes as a property of the person dealing them is the gambler's fallacy wearing a name badge.
