What is Craps?

Craps is a casino dice game in which players bet on the outcome of rolls of two dice. A round opens with the come-out roll: on the Pass Line, a total of 7 or 11 wins immediately, while 2, 3, or 12 (craps) loses. Any other total — 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 — becomes the point. The shooter then keeps rolling until they either repeat the point, which wins the Pass Line, or roll a 7 first, which loses it. The game's energy comes from the whole table usually betting together behind the shooter. Worked example of why the Pass Line is strong: it carries a House Edge of about 1.41%, among the best in the casino. The real prize is the free odds bet, added once a point is set; it is paid at true odds and carries no house edge at all. If the point is 4, true odds are 2 to 1, so a 10 odds bet behind a 10 Pass Line wager returns 20 profit on the odds portion when the 4 repeats. Stacking maximum odds on the Pass Line drags the combined edge down toward roughly 0.3% to 0.6%, depending on the table's odds multiple. Craps matters because, played correctly, it offers some of the lowest costs on the floor, but only on the right bets. The common mistake is being drawn to the centre of the layout, where proposition bets such as any seven (house edge around 16.7%) look exciting but bleed money fast. The disciplined approach is to stick to the Pass Line or Don't Pass, take the maximum free odds allowed, and ignore the high-margin one-roll wagers. Always size odds bets within your Bankroll, since maximising them increases swings even as it lowers the percentage edge.
