Perfect Pairs is a blackjack side bet that pays out when your first two cards form a pair, with the size of the payout depending on how closely the two cards match. It is wagered separately from your main blackjack hand, before any cards are dealt, and is settled immediately on the deal regardless of how the round itself plays out. The bet recognises three tiers: a mixed pair (same rank, different colour), a coloured pair (same rank and colour, different suit) and a perfect pair (same rank and same suit), which is the best and rarest result.
A typical six-deck paytable pays 5:1 for a mixed pair, 10:1 for a coloured pair and 25:1 for a perfect pair, though these vary widely between tables and directly determine the house edge.
Worked example: you stake £10 on Perfect Pairs and are dealt two Queens of Hearts — a perfect pair. At 25:1 you collect £250 profit plus your £10 stake, for £260 returned. Had the Queens been red but different suits (hearts and diamonds), the coloured-pair tier pays 10:1, returning £110. On this common paytable the overall house edge is roughly 4.1%, far steeper than the sub-1% edge of the main blackjack game, and it climbs further on single-deck versions where fewer matching cards remain.
For players, treat Perfect Pairs as entertainment rather than strategy: the seed cannot be improved by skill and the long-run cost is high relative to basic-strategy blackjack. Compare with twenty-one-plus-three, insurance-bet, blackjack and basic-strategy.
