Single Customer View

Regulation

What is Single Customer View?

A shared cross-operator record of one player's gambling, meant to reveal harm that no single site can see.

What it means in practice

A single customer view is a shared record of one player's activity across several operators, built so that harm which is invisible at any one site becomes visible across all of them. The problem it addresses is structural: a person losing a manageable amount at eight casinos looks like eight ordinary customers, and each operator's own monitoring, however good, sees only its eighth. Britain's regulator has pushed the industry towards building one for years, and the difficulty has never been the analytics. It is that a functioning version requires competing companies to share identified customer data on a continuous basis, which raises data-protection questions the gambling regulator cannot answer alone. Pilots have run; a full cross-industry system has repeatedly stalled on exactly that. Multi-operator self-exclusion schemes are the part that does exist. They are narrower by design: they share a list of people who have asked to be excluded, rather than a live picture of everyone's play. The gap between the two is where the argument sits — a self-exclusion register catches somebody who has already recognised a problem and acted, while a single customer view is meant to catch somebody who has not.

Why it matters

A definition like this one decides what an offer is actually worth. The same wording turns up in bonus terms, on payment pages and in game rules, and it is usually where a promotion’s real cost is hiding — so it is worth reading an operator’s own terms with this meaning in mind rather than the marketing above them.

You must be of legal gambling age where you live — 18 in most markets, 19 or 21 in others. Understanding a term does not make an outcome more likely: casino games are built to return less than they take over time. Set deposit and time limits before you play.
