Spillemyndigheden is the Danish Gambling Authority, the government regulator that licenses and supervises online casino, betting, and land-based gambling operators in Denmark and enforces the country's gambling legislation. It sits under the Ministry of Taxation and issues the licences any operator needs to legally offer real-money gambling to Danish players. Its core consumer-protection tool is ROFUS (Register Over Frivilligt Udelukkede Spillere), the national self-exclusion register. Every licensed operator must check ROFUS before letting a player gamble, so a single registration blocks a person across all Danish-licensed sites at once, either temporarily or permanently. Spillemyndigheden also runs StopSpillet, a helpline, and requires operators to display its licence mark and responsible-gambling messaging. Worked example: an online casino licensed in Denmark pays gaming duty of 28% on its gross gaming revenue (GGR). If that casino books 10,000,000 DKK in GGR over a period, it owes 2,800,000 DKK in duty to the Danish state. A separate combined licence covers both online casino and betting, and licence fees scale with revenue, so a large operator pays materially more than a small one. For players and affiliates, the practical signal is simple: a valid Spillemyndigheden licence means the operator is bound by Danish rules on ROFUS checks, marketing limits, and payout integrity. GambleOrbit treats Danish licensing as a trust marker, but a licence is not an endorsement of any single bonus or game. Compare with the UKGC, MGA, and Spelinspektionen, Sweden's equivalent regulator.
