What is Super Meter?

A super meter is a second mode found on classic three-reel slots, in which winnings from the base game can be played on instead of being kept. Wins are transferred to a separate meter, and play from that meter costs more per spin than the base game, often several times more, with a paytable that pays correspondingly larger amounts. The credit can be moved back to the main balance at any point, and nothing forces the transfer. The mechanism is old and predates video slots, which is why it survives mostly on retro titles. It is a structured version of the gamble feature: rather than doubling a win on a coin flip, the player re-stakes it at a higher denomination against a better paytable. The reason it matters when comparing games is that headline numbers attached to these titles are frequently super meter numbers. A slot with a large figure in its name will often be quoting a multiple of the coin value achievable inside the doubled-stake mode, not a multiple of the total bet in the base game.
