What is Client Seed?

A client seed is the random input supplied or controlled by the player in a provably fair game, combined with the casino's server seed so the operator cannot pre-compute the outcome of a bet. Because the casino commits to its hashed server seed before you play but cannot know the value you will choose, adding your own input prevents it from selecting a server seed that engineers a losing result. Most crypto casinos generate a default client seed for you but let you edit it to any string at any time. Worked example: before betting, the casino shows the SHA-256 hash of its server seed, a fingerprint that locks the value without revealing it. You set your client seed to "orbit123". Each bet then attaches an incrementing counter called the nonce (bet one uses nonce 0, bet two nonce 1, and so on), and the three inputs — server seed, client seed, nonce — pass through a deterministic algorithm to produce the result. On a dice game with a 1% house edge, that formula might output a roll of 47.20 on a 0–100 scale; if your bet needed under 50, you win. After you rotate to a new server seed, the casino reveals the old one so you can re-hash it, confirm it matches the earlier fingerprint, and replay every roll. Practical tip: change your client seed periodically, and always set a fresh one whenever the server seed is rotated, so each verification cycle is clearly yours. Changing the client seed does not improve your odds — the house edge is unchanged — it only guarantees the operator could not have rigged the sequence in advance.
