What is Fixed Paylines?

Fixed paylines are lines that are always in play. The player cannot choose how many to bet on, and every spin covers all of them. The alternative, now much rarer, is selectable lines, where a player could activate as few as one and pay proportionately less. The consequence is entirely about the stake. On a fixed-line game the number of lines multiplies the coin value to set the cost of a spin, so a game with more lines has a higher minimum bet at the same coin value. This is why comparing two slots by their minimum stake alone can mislead: a forty-line game at a low coin value and a ten-line game at a higher one may cost the same per spin while behaving very differently. Fixed lines are also why a stated maximum win as a multiple of the bet is the figure that travels between games. Because the whole stake is always in play, a multiplier of the total bet means the same thing on every fixed-line slot, whereas per-line comparisons do not survive a change in line count. Studios moved to fixed lines largely for this clarity, and because selectable lines let players unknowingly reduce their own chance of triggering features that require symbols on inactive lines.
