Scatter Pays

Scatter Pays is a slot mechanic that awards a win whenever a minimum number of matching symbols land anywhere on the reels, regardless of their position or whether they line up along a payline. Popularised by Play'n GO's "Pay Anywhere" system and NetEnt titles, it replaces fixed lines with a count-based rule: the game simply tallies how many of a symbol are present across the whole grid and pays if that total meets the threshold, which is typically 8 or more on a large grid. In a Scatter Pays slot every symbol effectively behaves like a scatter, so orientation and adjacency do not matter. This is distinct from cluster pays, which requires matching symbols to touch each other, and from ways-to-win formats, which still reward left-to-right adjacency.
